Name, order, place: the main pattern this tool uses
This is a fan-made tool inspired by the dark-fantasy world of Elden Ring. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by FromSoftware or Bandai Namco, and it does not output official character names. It borrows a shape that the game's major figures share (a name followed by a descriptive title, as in Godrick the Grafted or Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon) and fills it from three fixed lists.
| Part | Entries | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Given name | 24 | Caelith, Ysolde, Orien, Darian |
| Order or role | 24 | Grave Warden, Exiled Champion, Hollow Pilgrim |
| Place | 20 | the Ashen Coast, the Broken Chapel, the Drowned Ruins |
In the default Full title style, every result is one of each, written as Name, Order of Place. That is 24 x 24 x 20 = 11,520 combinations, but only 24 first names, so the first word repeats often. Caelith, Orien and Darian each turned up more than once in a short run of results. If a first name does not suit you, take the order and place from one result and swap in a name of your own.
Two shorter styles are also available. Name and order drops the place, as in Orien, Grave Warden. Short pairs a given name with a one-word epithet in 16 characters or fewer, as in Orien the Pale, which suits most character-name boxes.
Three results taken apart
Orien, Grave Warden of the Pale Sanctuary. The strongest kind. A warden implies a duty, and a sanctuary that is "pale" implies something has already drained out of it. You can start writing a character from that line alone.
Edric, Erdtree Pilgrim of the Drowned Ruins. The order word comes straight from the game's setting, which gives it a recognizable flavor but also makes it less original than a word invented for your own world. It sits more naturally in a game character creator that already has an Erdtree.
Beren, Blackflame Adept of the Burning Cathedral. Two fire words in one line: the order and the place compete. A weaker draw, and the quickest fix is to regenerate or swap the place for a calmer one.
Some of the orders echo the game's starting classes (Confessor, Astrologer and Prophet all appear in the game and in the list), so a result can double as a build idea. Others, such as Hollow Pilgrim or Scarlet Wanderer, are invented in the same register.
Using a result
Character creators usually limit the name length, so the given name alone, or the name plus a single epithet (Vaelis the Scarlet), is the practical choice for an in-game handle. For lore and roleplay, the full line works as a ready-made introduction. The guide to naming your Elden Ring character covers the character-creator side. For a more sinister slant try the villain name generator, and for an order of honorable fighters use the knight name generator.
The titles are tuned to a bleak, ruined setting. A cheerful role or a bright place will not appear, so the tool is a poor fit for light fantasy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this use real Elden Ring character names?
No. The given names are generic fantasy names such as Aveline, Theron and Maelis, and the orders and places are written for this tool. A few words, like Erdtree and Tarnished, come from the game's setting.
Can I use a result as my in-game name?
Usually, though length limits and name filters vary. If the full line is too long, choose the Short option, which gives a given name and a one-word epithet in 16 characters or fewer, or use the given name alone. Console and PC name rules differ, so test in the character creator.
Why do the same first names keep appearing?
There are only 24 given names in the list, while there are 24 orders and 20 places. The titles vary much more than the first names, so regenerate and keep the title you like.
Is it suitable for settings other than Elden Ring?
Yes, for any grim, ruined fantasy world where a name plus a title is the norm. It is not designed for lighthearted or modern settings.
How do I make a title feel more tragic?
Pick a role that implies a past event, such as Exiled Champion or Fallen Herald, and pair it with a place that suggests loss, such as the Sunken Crypt or the Drowned Ruins.
