One adjective, one political noun

Every result is exactly two words: an adjective and a form of government or a place type. Results such as Frozen Monarchy, Marble Domain, Silver Enclave, Burning Dominion and Platinum Hegemony show it. The default pool has 34 adjectives, mostly gems, metals and colors (Emerald, Obsidian, Cobalt, Ivory), and the nouns list has 30 entries. The Light option draws from 15 bright adjectives (Radiant, Dawn, Blessed, Hallowed), and the Dark option from 15 grim ones (Shadow, Cursed, Forsaken, Void, Abyssal).

This tool makes a formal label, the kind that goes on a map legend or in a treaty. It does not produce in-world names such as Eldermark or Highreach, and it has no sense of geography. A result like Pearl Imperium may suit a trading power, but nothing in the code knows that.

Picking by what the noun implies

The nouns carry the political meaning, so choose them like a decision aid:

NounSuggestsWatch out for
Kingdom, Monarchy, CrownA hereditary rulerMonarchy sounds more like a system than a place
Principality, ProtectorateA smaller state ruled by a prince or protected by a stronger powerA vassal or buffer, not a great power
Empire, Imperium, HegemonyA state that dominates othersFits a conqueror; poor for a peaceful farming valley
DominionA realm under one ruler's authorityCould be sovereign or a subordinate territory
Republic, Commonwealth, Federation, Coalition, League, UnionCouncils, elections or shared ruleNo king, so adjust titles in your story
Citadel, Bastion, Fortress, Stronghold, Sanctum, EnclaveA fortified place or small holdingBetter for a capital or a base than for a whole nation
TheocracyRule by a priesthoodPair with a religious adjective like Holy or Sacred

Mismatches to catch

The adjective and noun are independent, so some combinations are silly or contradictory. Blessed Theocracy and Hallowed Sanctum work. Frozen Alliance can only work if you explain the cold. Dark Republic is interesting because it breaks the usual crown-and-sword pattern. A Light result can still describe a cruel state, which is a useful irony if you want one.

Formal name and everyday name

People who live in a realm rarely use its full title. You can keep the generated name for maps and treaties and give citizens a short form. Check the sound against your cast, since a state called Obsidian Empire sits oddly next to characters from the elf name generator. Use the town name generator for settlements inside the realm, the country name generator for names with a more modern, geographic feel, and the guide to fantasy names for naming your people in the same sound as their land.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the Light and Dark options change?

They swap the adjective pool: 15 bright words for Light and 15 grim ones for Dark. The nouns are the same, and neither option fixes the realm's morality, so a Light name can sit on a cruel state.

Can I get a name like Eldermark or Highreach?

No. This tool only returns an adjective plus a political word, such as Golden Fortress or Iron Coalition. For place-style names with endings like -mark or -reach, try the town or country generators.

What is the difference between a kingdom, a realm and an empire?

A kingdom is ruled by a king or queen, a realm is a general word for any ruled territory, and an empire governs multiple peoples or lands, usually through conquest. Choose by the scale and the ruler's title in your story.

Do the adjective and noun always make sense together?

Not always. They are picked independently, so combinations such as Frozen Alliance may need a story to explain them. Rerun or change one word.

Which nouns suit a small or minor state?

Principality, Protectorate, Enclave, Territory and League read as smaller powers, while Empire, Imperium and Hegemony suggest a dominant one.
